Birdhouse Cabin
Redwood, New York
Better Farm is a 65-acre property that includes forests, rolling hills, open fields, a pond, sauna, various paddocks for the rescued farm animals, organic gardens, an Art Barn, and this small, straightforward cabin.
Better Farm started out as a commune in the 1970s and has been converted into a premier campus for art, sustainability, music, and community-building. From the gentle, rescued farm animals to the eclectic and bohemian style of the farmhouse and outbuildings, to the on-site radio station, performance spaces, and year-round events, we promise this will be unlike any other accommodation you've stayed in.
The Birdhouse cabin is small and straightforward with a full-sized bed, solar lights, battery-powered lantern, and fan is provided. There is a compost toilet two buildings away. Guests will also have access to the second floor shared amenities in the farmhouse including two full bathrooms and a kitchenette (microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster oven, hot plate, rice cooker, slow cooker, sink).
The farmhouse is filled with art, great energy, and eclectic touches throughout. It is NOT a Hilton! Floorboards creak, some drains have rust stains, and all the elements of country living—from an errant housefly to a cobweb—can be found here. We are a real, working farm with roosters who crow, pigs who oink, and hens who wander around on the first-floor deck on a regular basis. The property is clean but lived in. Please set your expectations accordingly!
During COVID-19, the downstairs of the farmhouse is off-limits to guests.
Better Farm has more than a dozen lakes within 10 miles (the closest lake is 1 mile away) and is just 10 miles from Alexandria Bay and the Thousand Islands. The area is a paradise for those who like to get outside: hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and more.
We are within an hour of the Adirondacks, making Better Farm a great home base while exploring all the region has to offer. Clayton and Sackets Harbor are each within 35 minutes and offer a plethora of year-round shopping and dining options.
