Blankets of snow cover Tahoe in the winter. What better way to explore than by strapping on some snow shoes and getting out there?

On busy winter weekends in Tahoe, the slopes are often crowded and those looking for some fun in the snow look elsewhere for adventure. My friends and I found a good snowshoe rental store not too far from downtown South Lake with affordable pricing. We decided not to pay and use the store's groomed trails and instead opted to find a less crowded and more secluded area to explore. We drove along Emerald Bay road. until we found a good shoulder to pull over. We slapped on our snowshoes and set out into the forest. We did not really have a destination in mind drawn to some amazing views of the surrounding mountains as well as the untouched snow-covered forest. . We were the only ones out there and the privacy and silence were very pleasant. Venturing further south would lead to Fallen Leaf Lake and potentially more crowded trails. This trip is great for anyone looking for a fun and quiet activity to do while your friends spend hundreds on a lift ticket on the mountains.
