We hiked the Art Loeb in the fall and we decided to hike from South to North and I would definitely recommend doing it this direction. It saves the best views for last and gives you something to work towards while climbing up countless mountains. This hike was very strenuous. Bring enough water or stash it on the trail ahead of time. Bring plenty of food and don't forget bear spray and a bear canister. We didn't see any recent bear activity when we hiked this trail but we did sleep in some pretty fierce winds at night that probably kept them at bay. Would definitely recommend using GPS maps to keep you on the trail. It can be hard to follow at some points.

We chose to do this hike clockwise, starting at the upper trailhead parking and checking out the massive sliding rock waterfall first and finished with the view side during sunset which was super romantic. The hike took my girlfriend and me around 3 and a half hours with stops to play frisbee and picnic at the top. I would consider this trail strenuous as others did, but we managed just fine and stopped and took a break or two on the way up. We are avid hikers though, so if you're not in great shape this hike might take you an extra hour or two. Expect lots of stairs no matter which way you do the loop. Overall worth the effort!
