Beautiful, quick hike! I was up and back in an hour, with a solid 20 minutes to take in the view at the top. Would definitely recommend using this article's location. Park there, on Mine Rd (there's a pull off with "hiker parking" and a blue blaze). Then, I took the old mine road down aways (dirt road with "no motor vehicles" sign at bottom of parking area), but wound up losing ground and elevation for no reason. Would recommend parking here and walking up Mine Rd up PAST the wooden info/trailhead bulletin, about 400 ft to a set of blue blazes on the right side of the road. This would subtract 10 min of downhill from your trip. Then you start to scramble! Little technical in spots, but really quick, and the views are definitely worth it!!! come down the other way, it's easier on the knees. Cool fixed ropes to aid the descent.

Love this trail. It didn't take long but the first mile or so is lots of rocky stairs (pretty typical AT), which was somewhat taxing on the knees on the way down. But by the time you reach the junction for the blue blazed local trail, it's mostly a flat walk in beautiful woods until a gorgeous, panoramic view of the Hudson and Bear Mountain Bridge. Would definitely do again!

Nice little dose of danger here :) a solid class 3 scramble up the cliff of the ridge-- 0.7 mi feels like a lot more. But by the time you've reached the first plateau, the hardest bit is behind you. A few downs and big ups ahead, but nothing like that first mile. Wear good shoes and start early, and don't go on the weekend!

What wonderful views! The trail is great-- just enough boulders and scrambling to get your hands dirty and make it feel rugged, but really well marked and not too steep (for the most part). Great for beginners and intermediate hikers, and still fun for the more experienced. My favorite views were on the southside of the mountain, and we had to get creative following footpaths off the trail... wouldn't recommend unless you're confident in your navigation skills but all the views were gorgeous anyway.
