Web Design Team Leader

Position Summary:

Lead Garmin Web Design group in designing, developing and maintaining engaging, standards-compliant content for our web properties.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee creation and maintenance of web content (communicate status of jobs, projected completion dates and future goals)
  • Ensure Garmin’s web properties adhere to established guidelines for design consistency, usability and conformity to web standards
  • Design and develop web pages and online marketing materials to create a rich, engaging, user-centered web experience
  • Work with internal associates to
  • Prioritize Web Design team tasks for ongoing projects
  • Work closely with Project Manager, Web Content Manager and the design team to refine the vision for our web properties, assist in planning the smart evolution of our site design and perfect the user experience for our growing web ecosystem
  • Work closely with representatives from IT, Marketing, Engineering and others to plan, develop, and complete projects
  • Work closely with Campaigns Creative Directors and Global Creative Director to ensure that web design and content is aligned with advertising efforts from a campaign perspective
  • Work closely with Customer Experience Lead to ensure that content is aligned from a customer experience perspective

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Maintain technical knowledge of web-based tools, procedures and best practices


  • Bachelor’s Degree in design related field or a minimum 7 years of professional experience
  • An online design portfolio demonstrating superior understanding of digital design, including best coding practices, typography, and layout
  • Familiarity with current usability and user experience guidelines
  • Superior understanding of current coding practices, including CSS-based design
  • Familiarity with the current Adobe CC
  • Experience in designing for e-commerce
  • Proven competence with PC or Mac-based software related to writing and web development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline-oriented
  • Ability to work with little supervision in a cooperative, team environment

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with ActionScript, JavaScript, Java, AJAX, etc.
  • Previous experience in Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Advertising, or Marketing
  • Familiarity with best practices and current standards for web design, development, usability and user experience guidelines
  • Experience with various CMS tools and platforms
