Hidden gem!! About a 4.3 mile out and back 305 ft elevation gain hike to get to a big waterfall with many views of neat rock formations along the way. Hike included multiple substantial stream crossings (so bring/wear good water shoes ie. Chacos, etc.). Depending on water levels you will likely have to get close to knee deep in some spots of stream crossings. We went in May when stream levels might be higher than summer levels. When we were there on a Saturday in may there were probably 20/30 people hanging around the water fall. Hiking just upstream of the waterfall you could get to more secluded smaller waterfalls and rocks that were also beautiful to have a more quiet secluded place to hang out. Water was extremely cold in May.

I have been to the Virginia side of Great Falls (there is also a Maryland side) multiple times during the past few summers. This park definitely fills up on weekends. America the Beautiful pass will get you in/parked for free! Went recently on a rainy/drizzly day and it was pleasant not to fight the crowds.

I visited this park while on a road trip through the Grand Canyon and Sedona. I went on a Saturday in June. We arrived by 8:30 am and were able to get a parking spot, but it appeared the parking lot filled shortly after we arrived.

We stopped on our way from the Hoover Dam to the Grand Canyon. The pull off is very small and there were no cars in it when we stopped mid-afternoon on a weekday. Because there were no cars we missed the pull off a few times and had to make circles. The pull-off can only be accessed directly from the West bound side of the highway. However, if you are approaching from the eastbound side there is a break in the highway slightly past the pull off for the trail that you can turn onto the westbound side. The hike itself is as noted in the description. It is pretty flat and mostly shaded. Definitely an easy way to see a slot canyon!

Great view. Just stopped by the overlook, but one of the more impressive waterfalls I’ve seen on the east coast!

I saw this hike and thought this would be better than through hiking the enchantments because it was less in length and because it didn’t require a shuttle/2 cars. After completing it I realized that it might’ve been easier to through hike the enchantments or see the view at the top of Asgard by coming from the Snow Lakes Trail head. Climbing up the Asgard rock scramble (that ended up being close to 3000’ of elevation gain for us) was very difficult. It was so difficult going up that we seriously contemplated through hiking the enchantments and trying to befriend through hikers at the top to give us a ride back to our car so that we would not have to climb down the rock scramble. We did do the climb down the Asgard pass rock scramble. The climb down was full of many falls as we slipped on the small rocks and dust that provided no traction. Based on the original posting we figured the whole hike could be accomplished in 5 hours, 13 mi, and 4400’ elev gain. It actually took us 12 hours, 14 miles, and 5000’ in elev gain. I personally do not see how it could’ve been done in 5 hours. My friend who was with me had climbed Half Dome in Yosemite (relatively equivalent in elevation gain and mileage) and thought this hike beat that in difficulty. Overall the views were absolutely stunning but I’d definitely find a different way to do this that would not require doing Asgard twice.
