A climber's paradise where beginners and professionals climb together

This small Italian town is just a few minutes drive north of Lake Garda in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of northern Italy. And while it might be small in size, it's a huge destination in the world of rock climbing, attracting climbers from around the world.

But what makes Arco so special?

It's not just the Italian charm that makes Arco special, although the narrow cobbled streets of the old town are pretty wonderful. It's the fact that it is an actual paradise for climbers of all ages and abilities. It's also somewhere you can climb almost all year round.

There are over a hundred different sport climbing crags in the Arco/Trento/Rovereta area, plus numerous via ferrata routes, bouldering areas and some deep water soloing on Lake Garda too.

Within the sport climbing crags, you'll find routes for all abilities, from complete beginners to the world's best professionals (Adam Ondra was there filming at the same crag we were climbing at).

All the sport routes that we climbed were well bolted, with most of the bolts being pretty close together. Most of the routes are single pitch, but there are a few multi-pitches around too.

Some of the best crags for beginners are:

  • Massi delle Traole, Nago
  • Belvedere, Nago
  • Muro dell'Asino, Laghel
  • San Martino, Massone

Rock Climb in Arco Reviews

Lago di Garda area is absolutely beautiful place for different kind of activities - hiking, climbing, walking, biking etc. The nature here is stunning and views of the lake are breathtaking. And after your climbing day, you can relax in one of the Arco's cafes or restaurants enjoying unique atmosphere of this little Italian gem. Btw. there are tons of shops with climbing gear, I always prefer to buy my climbing shoes here instead of Slovakia.
