• Right in the middle of the Italian Alps• Appropriate for families• Scenic walk around the lake

Lago di Braies is an unforgettable place in South Tyrol. Not only its distinctive colour, but also the great mountains and the marvellous scenery make it definitively worth to explore. You can get there by car, if you take the Strada Statale 49 (Highway), and enter into the village of Braies/ Prags between Monguelfo/ Welsberg and Villabassa/ Niederdorf. Then you just have to follow the street and you’ll get to the parking lot, which will cost you 4€ per day, in about 10 minutes. Or you can even get there by bus.Used by local or international filmmakers for movies and tv series, it became popular over the last few years and is now also highly valued by tourists. The trail around the lake starts at the hotel right in front of the lake and takes about an hour. First the path goes through a beach, where you have a good view on the lake and its unique colouring, but also some rocks. If you are brave you will go on top of one of the rocks and you will notice a little floating platform you can go onto. Past the beach the pathway will go right into the wood, until you will reach the second beach half across the way. The path, which as from now goes straight upwardly, reaches its highest point, where you can overlook again the beauty of the lake as a whole. Near the end of the loop there is once more an interesting point, it’s a flat site of the lake, where you can observe the ground of the lake and even some colorful seaweed. In the summer you can rent a rowboat and paddle around the lake and enjoy the truly stunning outlook to the majestic rock formations. Some people say it is the most beautiful lake in the Alps and I would definitively agree with that.
