We took this hike in the beginning of September and it was incredible! Still very hot at that time of year, definitely bring plenty of water. Its not a very difficult hike, but as the post mentions the heat can get to you fast because there isn't any shade or relief along the way. Getting up close and personal with the West Mitten Butte might just be your most memorable experience in Monument Valley.

The lighthouse features unbelievable landscapes and are unforgettable. Its definitely a place that's a must visit if you are near Cape Town. Be sure to check the hours of the park once you enter because you can easily get locked in! If you do get locked in the guard at the front gate will have to call a park ranger which could take an hour and you may face a fine.

Hi Scotti - Great review! We just returned from a trip to the BVIs where we were lucky enough to explore The Baths for a day. Your write-up is pretty spot on, though I'd like to recommend noting that visitors should get to The Baths as early as possible (definitely before 10 a.m. most days) in order to avoid the tour groups and hordes of people being shipped in off the cruise ships. Another note for anyone looking to visit is that, if sailing, you'll need to anchor then swim to shore (or take a dinghy to the edge of the swimming area, find a mooring, then swim to shore). In this instance, a dry bag is very necessary!

Recently visited this spot for the first time after receiving a recommendation from a fellow photographer. When we got to the cave, the sun was just setting and turning the monuments and cliffs into a deep crimson. You could really feel the spiritual connection to the ancient site, and it was so quiet!

Great post, Michael! We just finished up a road trip out in southern Utah/ northern Arizona and spent three days in Monument Valley. There's nothing more iconic than the view from Gump Road. In fact, we'd love it if you checked out our blog at http://www.andtheretheygo.com and let us know your thoughts on our post about camping in Monument Valley! Happy adventuring! Matt + Hillary
