Test your endurance as you climb up to the Puu Mai, Koko Crater's highest peak.
The 1,000+ steps left by abandoned railway ties make for a challenging hike up to the highest point of the Koko Crater. This "run" is not for the faint of heart. Step after step leaves your glues and quads screaming for a break, but don't worry, your efforts will be rewarded with a breathe taking view. On a clear day you can see all three islands and the other side of the Koko Crater.
The Koko Crater Trail is a popular destination for tourists, locals and athletes to train. I recommend setting your coffee timer early to beat the crowds. You will miss most of the foot traffic and witness an amazing sunrise. Bring a wind jacket to throw on at the peak if you chose to hike in the morning. With all those steps you are sure to break a sweat, especially if you attempt to run.
Make sure you bring lots of water and let your significant other know you may need a lower body massage after this one. BE CAREFUL where you step, some of the footing is unstable at points along the hike. Enjoy the workout and have fun!
