Super Bloom at Carrizo Plain

Don't let allergies stop you from enjoying the super bloom.

We picked Monday for our visit, as the National Monument had been receiving very heavy foot traffic.  We left early in the morning from Los Angeles and eventually hopped on the 58 and took it all the way to Soda Lake Road.  I've never seen this shade of yellow in flora.  Imagine if someone took a highlighter and went mad with their colouring.  The hillside, valleys and any other surface were littered with these wildflowers.  It was gorgeous, bright, and plentiful.  My senses were on overdrive and nothing stopped being moving and beautiful.

There are no set paths through the plains; you kind of just find a path already set and follow it, trying not to stomp on any of the flowers.  You walk as little or as much as you'd like; the area is massive and there are lots of hills that you could veer off.  It's mostly flat and nearly impossible to get lost, so staying on trail is not an issue.  Lastly, Soda Lake Road does house a huge alkaline lake via a muddy salt bed.  I verified it was salt by tasting it, which I don't suggest, but if you're curious, go for it!
