Description
Added by Will Parker
The Hohenzollern Castle dominates the German sky with its neo-gothic style. An ancient fortress fit for King and Queen.
The Burg Hohenzollern Castles sits atop a bluff along the Swabian Alb highland region of Germany. Miles before you set foot on the castle grounds the ancient fortress dominates the landscape. The Prussian castle looks down on the neighboring villages and fields, providing a photographer with a panorama unmatched in the region.
Begin your journey by parking at any number or parking lots along the way up to the castle. If you crave a hike and truly want to experience the landscape (and what it must have felt like to get to the castle in the 1500s), park at the lower lot and grab your hiking shoes. The trail up is steep, but don't worry, there are plenty of places to stop and catch your breathe or snap a picture. Be sure to purchase a ticket at the shop halfway up, 12 euros, proceeds go to preserving the Castle grounds. There is also a shuttle that will take your right to the castle entrance if needed!
A castle map provides all the information you need, as well as information about the castle. You will see the royal chambers, library, even their enormous cellar. The castle store has plenty of souvenirs to commemorate your trip Be sure to check out the King statues along the Castle walls.
Finish your day of royalty with a german beer and desert at the castle beer garden. Total trip is around 1 mile with about 400ft in elevation gain. Enjoy and have fun!
