Description

Added by Abby Smith

Relax on the shores of the South Fork Peachtree Creek in the Morningside Nature Preserve. This preserved area is good for well-behaved dogs off-leash.

Park your car on the residential road and look across the street into the woods for the trail. The trail winds around through a bamboo forest with streams winding in and out. The trail splits and you can either take the high road or low road closer to the river. Both trails meet back up near the river (Peachtree Creek) and the really cool suspension bridge.

From here, you can take a right towards the powerline ridge or across the bridge and wind through the lowlands to a beautiful staircase, eventually ending up at the Lenox Rd. parking area. Not recommended in summer months due to overgrown vegetation.

Morningside Nature Preserve Loop Reviews

This is a lovely pocket of nature in a very busy part of the city. The trails are quiet and winding and lead you through a series of different terrains in just a few short miles. It’s never crowded and there are plenty of plant specimens to check out along the trail. If you zone out on the trail long enough, city noise dissipates and it almost feels like you’ve stepped into another world.

For what it is, it's great. You can definitely still see and hear signs of city life throughout a lot of the preserve, but it's perfect for a quick fix. It's down the street from where we live so I go here to run, let the dogs swim, read, or just when I need a little me time.

A hidden secret in Atlanta that you can let dog off leash and chill on a sandy beach by the creek, chill, listen to tunes, drink beers and watch your dog play in water all day long.
