Description

Take a hike along the sandy Green Loop Trail. Then walk up the observation tower of Hobe Mountain, the highest point south of Lake Okeechobee, where you can view the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal, and the entire park.

This is a 4.9 mile loop hike at only 86 ft. above sea level. The terrain varies from thick sand, rocks, to paved gravel. The trail is easy to follow with green markers throughout. Follow the path through the scrub, you will come to a railroad track on the right and will follow the trail alongside the tracks, which will then lead to a bike path (paved). The trail then becomes very narrow as it guides you alongside a lake, then widens again as you head back to the parking area.

Then, take a short drive further into the park to view Hobe Mountain. Only an additional 0.4 mile walk up to the observation tower will allow you to view the Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal, and the entire park area. We went during the daytime, but I hear this area is awesome for viewing the sunrise/sunset. This walk can easily be added to any hike or activity you choose to do within the park.

There are many more hiking trails included in the park like the East Loop Trail (9.8 miles) and the Kitching Creek Loop (7.5 miles). The park also offers camping, biking, swimming, horseback riding, and cabin rentals.

We went in January and had no problem with bugs, but it was around 80 degrees and can be hot along the trail as there are very few shaded areas. Make sure to bring plenty of water if going when temperatures are high.
