Huge Cypress Trees, a swamp oasis teaming with wildlife, and some peace and quiet.

A few miles after the Big Cypress visitor center you will find the Kirby Storter Boardwalk. This is a short 1 mile trail through a mature cypress strand. It is a pretty neat experience since in the Everglades in order to be in the middle of a habitat like this, you have to get your feet wet, however this well maintained boardwalk puts you right in the center of this unique ecosystem.

About halfway through the boardwalk it becomes less exposed and is shaded by mature cypress trees as the floor becomes lit up by the light that shines through. When you reach the end there is an overlook that opens to a small swamp oasis where you will likely spot multiple alligators, fish, turtles, birds, and maybe even some snakes. Since this boardwalk is about halfway from Miami to Naples there is not much else out here and you will likely find some peace and quiet.

After taking it all in you retrace the same path on the boardwalk to the parking lot but luckily everything looks a little different when you are walking in a different direction. Sunset is the most highly recommended time for this trail because on the way back you will be treated great lighting that makes this an even better experience.
