Paddle a loop around Everglades City and visit a few of the closest backcountry sites in the area, such as Lopez River, Crooked Creek, and Rabbit Key.

Start your journey in Everglades City and head either to Rabbit Key or The Lopez River. The Lopez River is an old Calusa shell mound and named after Gregorio Lopez, who build a house here in 1892. The old cistern has an engraving on it with the date it was completed. Continue to the crooked creek chickee, which is the newest in the park. Then head out to Rabbit Key for a beach campsite and a really nice little island. The total trip will be 20-25 miles and can be done overnight. Remember to use your tide charts.
