Description

Torreya offers a phenomenal seven mile loop trail (with another seven mile loop along the way for adventurers, an historical site including Civil War era gun pits, an amazing view of the Apilachicola River and hundreds of acres teaming with wildlife.
There's nothing else in Florida that compares to Torreya State Park. It really has a little bit of everything for history and nature buffs. The terrain is a mix of hardwood hammock, longleaf pine and wire grass and swamp. To top it off, you can start with a descent of more that 100 feet from the bluffs to the river.
The park includes family campsites with amenities, youth sites for groups, a yurt that you can rent and primitive sites if you want to get away from it all.
Trails are well marked with colored blazes indicating different trails. The restrooms are kept very clean and climate controlled at the family campsites. Dogs are permitted on leash.
If you can manage the right timing in December, the valley across the river turns amber and crimson before the trees drop their leaves. I'm not one for camping in the summer heat, but the park has something to offer all year round.
There are geo cache sites in the park and so much more. If you hike the trails, you are almost guaranteed a good night's sleep.
