Love looking at the houses in this neat picture perfect area.

It's a beautiful drive, not to be missed! Beware- it is a little scary though. I'm not a great passenger and I was a bit nervous with all the winding and cliff edges, but the stunning views of the ocean and rocky cliffs above you make up for all of the moments of fear. We stopped and took pics of the VW in all the fun iconic spots along the road (we should really make a VW calendar at this point, haha)! Even white knuckled at points, I would do the drive again in a second- prefer if I was the driver but that's just me...! Beautifuuuul!

We spend a good part of ski season commuting back and forth from LA to Mammoth and it's well worth the drive (or flight). Best mountain in California with great amenities and food. Lots to do even if you don't snowboard or ski. Plenty of terrain and almost all converted to high speed quads so freezing on the chair time is minimal. Actually there's little freezing on the chair anyway because it's sunny so often! Even when the snow isn't that great (drought), the weather cannot be beat!

Worth doing if you're in the area. In the summer (at least the last few years) it's mainly a lot of dirt and not particularly green, but still a beautiful ride and fun to check out. If you make it at sunset, then the skies are amazing above the mountains!

Great cross country skiing area with lots of trails. Minimal crowds when we went- we took 2 dogs and 5 people and saw only maybe 1 group of snowmobiles all day. There's easy and more challenging trails as well as shorter loops for those of us not so experienced in cross country skiing. It was really serene and relaxing- even with 5 goofballs and 2 furry goofballs running amok!

People ask me all the time if I took the picture on my screen saver and where it is- well that's it! Totally worth the stop on the trip to Big Sur- you can't go down to the beach, but it's a great place to get out of the car and stretch your legs and check out the scenic view while snapping some rad photos of below!

Whatever you do, don't get in the water! From certain areas (like the little marina) you would think it's just a nice lake- but then venture to abandoned Bombay beach and you realize you are walking through a waste land of dead fish and bizarre left items- we saw a grand piano just sitting on the beach... The town sitting against the beach is pretty run down and mostly empty (sort of creepy) but we drove past a soccer field full of children playing and mini vans so I know the whole area can't be that way. Definitely worth a stop if you're passing through- but I wouldn't make a trip of it.

We stopped on a road trip to snap a few photos- we didn't bother paying to go in the full museum or park. The biggest dinosaurs are outside the park, but I believe they have a few smaller animatronic ones inside the gates. We didn't have time or interest to stay long enough to go in, but we got some funny pics of our dogs on the dinosaur feet and our VW parked in front. They are huge so you have to be pretty far away to get a full picture. Fun quick roadside stop- and it was in The Wiz for you 90's buffs!

Fun and fairly easy hike- until you choose to take the never ending stairs back out! It's never been crowded when I've gone, yesterday we only saw 3 other people. I was able to have my dog off leash the whole time and we didn't see any other dogs on the trail. It's a little confusing if you haven't been there- pass the yellow gate onto the fire road (follow the mountain bikers coming up from the neighborhood), then just walk up the road past the 2 staircases and you will get to the entry point of Murphy's Ranch. The recently took down the giant gate, but you'll see the road in. Go soon- they are removing the buildings and when I went yesterday we only found the barn, the house and a water tank left. The stairs out are a major butt work out!
