A great way first mountain summit. In the summer it doesn't require technical gear and is doable for most people with the proper training. We climbed at night to enjoy a sunrise on the mountain and it was well worth it! Great way to avoid the crowd and heat.

We went the Friday before Memorial Day and the flowers were amazing. Peak time for this cold, wet year, but on a normal year you'll probably want to go before Memorial Day. The parking lot was full so we parked a half mile east in a pull out of SR14. Make sure to bring lunch to enjoy at the top.

I did a short section from Elk Creek TH to the Dog Creek crossing. Pros: I had the trail to myself. Con: You can hear the freeway noise for most of the trail.
