If you’ve recently booked a hotel in Wagga Wagga, you’ve probably moved onto planning some other aspects of your trip – notably, where you will enjoy a few meals during your stay. One of the best parts of being on holidays is being able to eat out – you don’t have to order the same thing as your dining companions, you don’t have to slave away in the kitchen, and there aren’t any dishes to do at the end of the night! So, where do we recommend eating?

• The Magpie’s Nest Restaurant
This multi award winning restaurant is located in a stone stable (one of the region’s original settlements, dating back to the 1860s) overlooking the Murrumbidgee River. The menu is designed to showcase the best local produce and follows a set price format. It includes antipasto (with house made breads) to start, followed by your choice of main and dessert. Most dietary requirements can also be accommodated with ease.

• Roundabout Restaurant
Known for being one of Wagga’s finest dining establishments, this restaurant offers an a la carte menu that showcases some of the region’s best product as well as an excellent selection of local wines. The meals are beautifully presented (they often look too good to eat) and the menu also includes wine pairing suggestions to ensure that you enjoy your dining experience to the fullest. Perfect for celebrating a special occasion!

• Royal Garden Restaurant
This restaurant was named the best Chinese regional restaurant in New South Wales for 2010, which has made it a favourite amongst guests of hotels in Wagga Wagga. Banquet dinners are available at very reasonable prices so that you can sample a little of everything, otherwise feel free to order from the wide array of dishes available. Takeaway is also available if you would prefer to dine back in your room.

• The Rules Club
The Riverina Australian Football Club, more affectionately known as The Rules Club by the locals, prides itself on offering a more community environment. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week, providing you with ample opportunities to give them a try. Order a la carte or dig into the delicious buffet (available for breakfast and dinner daily, and lunch on weekends).

• Sala Restaurant & Bar
One of the most prestigious and renowned restaurants in Wagga, Sala serves a fusion Asian menu that is designed to showcase some of the region’s best local produce. The wine list is filled with local makers and there’s a cocktail list to match. The restaurant is also home to the largest six-sided canopy in the Southern Hemisphere – the 109 foot fabric roof towers above diners, providing a truly unique experience.

• The Union Club Bistro & Steakhouse
Located in the heart of the Wagga CBD, this restaurant is perfect for those looking for a more relaxed dining atmosphere. There is a wide variety of meal options available, from tender steaks to delicious pizzas. They also offer a finger food menu, which allows diners to select a handful of options that are designed to be shared (much like tapas). The drinks menu is also quite extensive.

The next time you happen to be staying at cheap hotelsin Wagga Wagga, we hope that you’ll give one of the eateries above a try. Although we can attest that pretty much all of the restaurants and cafes in the area are pretty good, these are some of our favourites and are sure to send you away satisfied. Don’t just take our word for it though! Be sure to talk to some of the locals and they’ll give you plenty of recommendations on where to eat.

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!
