Traveling Southern Indiana

Things to Do In Southern Indiana

By: Dave Oakley + Save to a List

Ok, so you've got a weekend on your hands and wondering what to do. Take a tour of Southern Indiana. There's a loop you can make along US 50 that travels East and West, that with a couple short detours off that road will open you to a whole new side of Indiana. Waterfalls, Covered Bridges, State Parks, Wildlife Areas, and winery's not to mention awesome scenery and vistas from some of the many hilltops. Look for places like Medora Covered Bridge, the longest in the state and the country at 460', James Covered Bridge that you can still drive through,Spring Mill State Park, The Devils Backbone Road, and Muscatatuck N.W.R.. We saw Herons, Pileated Woodpeckers, River Otters and Sand Hill Cranes there and there are a lot of hiking trails, bring your binoculars. In the fall this area is just spectacular as well. There are areas where you can even find gravel roads to drive on. And if you go far enough, you might come across the abandoned Medora Brickwords which is a photo opt all its own. Enjoy!!!

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!
