Description

Added by Tobin Akehurst

Hike up to two very tall Rocky Mountain National Park summits. Along the route, you'll see wildlife and abundant wildflowers as well as views of Keyhole Route and Longs Peak.

Arrive at the Bear Lake Trailhead. Follow abundant signage toward Flattop Peak. Once you arrive at the summit of Flattop identify the unnamed unmaintained trail leading south toward Hallett Peak. Round the head of Tyndall Gorge and ascend the rocky slopes toward the summit by connecting short use trails. Occasional cairns mark the way and the route is very easy to follow.

A rugged loop hike is possible by way of descending from Hallett peak into Chaos Canyon to reach the trail at Lake Hiayaho.

Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak Reviews

I did this hike last June. Its a really nice hike with beautiful views of all of Rocky Mountain National Park and Longs Peak. It was a bit chilly and windy at the top, but was worth it for some beautiful views.

It's a pretty strenuous hike, by its really beautiful especially when you get to the Boulder fields
