Hike Elk Meadow Dog Off-Leash Area

Colorado Stagecoach Trailhead Parking Lot

Added by Korey Taylor

Elk Meadow Dog Park offers an incredible 107 acres of off-leash area and includes 2.9 miles of trails leading through beautiful evergreens and across flowing creeks. This is hands down one of the best dog parks I've ever come across and has the best pun trail names.

Elk Meadow Dog Off-Leash Area is incredibly easy to access and only 45 minutes from downtown Denver. At the parking lot you will find the Stagecoach Trailhead that leads you along the Stagecoach Hollow Trail into the off-leash area. From here there a couple trail options depending on level of experience. Once you enter the off leash area you have the option to take a left along the Waggin' Tail Trail that is about a mile long and is rated the least difficult. It sits higher up in the park and offers a sprawling view of the entire area. The second option is to take the Stagecoach Hollow Loop Trail, which is probably the most popular option for park goers. The trail is rated more difficult and is about a mile long in total. There is a Stagecoach Cut-off Trail after half a mile that will loop you back around, but it doesn't actually save any time, it just cuts offer the outer hiking portion of the Stagecoach Hollow Loop Trail. The last option is to take the Bone-Anza Trail (also rated as more difficult) which starts to the left just before you reach the Stagecoach Cut-off Trail. The Bone-Anza Trail loops back around to the Stagecoach Hollow Loop, adding an additional 0.8 miles to the hike. Any of these options are great and it's such a fun experience meeting all the people and dogs that are also there.

How to Get There

Best Dog Park Ever

SO much better than the stinky urine soaked dog parks around town. This is beautiful, spacious and our pup made plenty of four legged friends!

Nice Park With Spectacular Views

While the trails aren't very long, between the uphill trek and playing with other dogs, our pups tired out pretty quickly. There's water for the dogs, but humans will need to bring their own.

Not much in the way of trails here but it's a pretty huge area to have your dog off-leash legally in Jeffco. Bring traction for icy winter conditions.

The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
