This beautiful hike is a 10 minute drive from Breckenridge and include vast mountain views, two gorgeous lakes and a waterfall.

This hike starts at 10,390 feet and ends at 12,073 (Upper Mohawk Lake). Start by driving to Spruce Creek Trailhead which can be reached by following CO 9 south of Breckridge for about 3 miles until you turn right on Spruce Creek Road. Continue on Spruce Creek Road for almost two miles until you reach the trailhead. Get there early to get a spot! We got there around 8:30AM in October and about half of the parking spots were filled; I would expect that it fills up even quicker in the summer.

The trail winds through the forest for the first few miles and is very easy. The last two or so miles are a little more strenuous, but not incredibly difficult, especially if you are acclimated to the altitude.

You will reach the Lower Mohawk Lake after about 2.75 miles, but don't stop there! It's just another half mile to the Upper Mohawk Lake, which is larger and has an even more impressive view in my opinion.

The hike also has a few old cabins and ruins from the old mining days, which are pretty cool to check out.
