This hike is an absolute gem, and conveniently located near Denver and Golden, Colorado. It is an excellent acclimation hike if heading into the high country, and provides spectacular views in all directions.
From the Cedar Gulch Trailhead, off of Golden Gate Canyon Road, take the Cedar Gulch Rrail for 1.3 miles to a junction with the Mount Galbraith Loop (39.76493N 105.25233W). This loop can be done clockwise (go left) or counterclockwise (go right). Counterclockwise is easier because the rocky sections of trail go upwards instead of downwards.
This 1.6 mile loop circumnavigates Mount Galbraith, but the actual summit is also attainable. On the southwest side of the loop, around (39.76315N 105.25627W), head northeast to the tallest rock outcropping. The terrain is very manageable and there are remnants of an old trail. Tread lightly as there is no established trail, and this is a Jefferson County Open Space park. There is a summit register at the top - make sure to sign it.
Return to the established trail, complete the loop, then link back up to Cedar Gulch Trail to return to the parking lot. When finished, make sure to visit the historical town of Golden. Take a tour of the Coors factory and pop in to Bob's Atomic Burgers, across the street, for lunch. They have a delicious selection of freshly made burgers, french fries, and sauces, plus vegetarian options.
