Explore Cherry Creek State Park in Winter
Englewood, Colorado
Description
Added by Haley Baker
Minutes from the Denver Tech Center, Cherry Creek State Park is a perfect place to marvel in winter without having to drive into the mountains.
Cherry Creek State Park centers itself around Cherry Creek Reservoir, making it a unique ecosystem to find in the middle of the city.
While this park is fantastic year-round, it is particularly special in winter. With access to ice-fishing, birding, cross country skiing, and on particularly snowy days, snowshoeing, Cherry Creek offers the wonder and adventure of the mountains without the hour plus drive to get there. There are over 12 miles of paved paths in the park, as well as cross country skiing trails when the snow is deep enough. Ice-skating is welcomed on the reservoir, and snow tubing is also permitted. There is a wetland preserve in the park, so expect to see numerous birds while wandering around. Campsites are accessible year-round, so it is also a great place to practice winter camping without being removed from civilization and a warm bed if need be.
With a little something for everyone, Cherry Creek State Park is a perfect place to spend a snow day with the kids or to get a few miles in before work.
Note: there is a dog off-leash area in the park as well.
