This lovely hike is in Golden, just outside Denver, and is a great place to watch the sunrise before heading into the office.

After parking in the roadside lot off Highway 6 eastbound, follow the Chimney Gulch Trail through field and forest, straight to the top of Lookout Mountain.

Lookout Mountain is also accessible by car, so you will cross the road a few times before reaching the top. The last quarter mile or so is much steeper than the rest of the hike, but the view is absolutely worth it! If you hike to watch the sunrise, you'll see the sun coming up over the city to east and the alpenglow in the foothills to the west.

I recommend bringing a camp stove along to brew yourself some mountaintop coffee.

The trail is multi-use, so keep an eye out for mountain bikers.
