Why are we doing this?

Why are we doing this?

Why are we doing this?

A question that keeps coming up, from friends and family. Why? Are you guys crazy?!?!

First, we need to define what “this” is. Most simply, Becca and I are packing up and hitting the road. Sage, the Chocolate Lab and Wilbur, the Dutch Shepherd, will be joining. We are driving a teardrop trailer east from Texas to Florida, north to Virginia, and finally out west to Idaho.

If you dig a little deeper, we are taking a break from high-paying corporate jobs to test out a different way of life. Dig deeper still, and this trip is a homecoming of sorts; I will be returning to work as a fly fishing guide on the South Fork of the Snake River. If you go even further, this trip is about spending the summer on the road the way I did with my father growing up.

Becca sees this as a chance to spend some quality time with the friends and family along our route, test out living leaner, and explore new places. She has travelled to many other parts of the world, however never to this extent within our borders – a wrong to be righted.

Those are just a few reason why we are doing this.

Why not?

At its core, this trip is about having fun. Living life as an adventure. Reintroducing spontaneity to our daily lives. As a result, we are challenging ourselves to learn new things and see the world through a different lens. Maybe the question, should be why not?

One thing we have learned through this process is that no one is going to give you permission. If you want to do something, just do the damn thing.

Drop us a line if you have any recommendations (thesunsetseekersblog@gmail.com) for stops along our route.

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!

Do you love the outdoors?

Yep, us too. That's why we send you the best local adventures, stories, and expert advice, right to your inbox.
