Kayak Deep Creek

Travel back in time with a trip down Deep Creek.

By: Charlie Grindrod + Save to a List

Deep Creek is a tributary of the St. John's River in portions of southern Volusia and northeastern Seminole counties, the coordinates are Lat: 28.7955477, Long: -81.0583927. Deep Creek runs from Lake Ashby in Volusia County  and empties into the St. John's just north of Lake Harney in Seminole County. The easiest access to Deep Creek is from the kayak launch located at the Lake Harney Wilderness area in Geneva, Florida. Deep Creek has many opportunities for fishing, photography, birding & wildlife viewing. The Creek meanders through ancient cypress swamps and pine flatwoods and there is an abundance of wildlife such as whitetail deer, wild hogs, wild turkeys, alligators and many bird species including the roseate spoonbill which is commonly seen along the creeks shorelines and sloughs. If you decide to make the trip bring plenty of water, insect repellent and snacks as the trip can be anywhere from a couple of hours to all day depending on how far you want to venture. Be aware that most of the land along deep creek is private property and is posted as such.
