Good SnowGreat views with good conditionsSteeper lines
Hero's Knob near the Black Prince area offers some terrific ski touring opportunities. On the backside there is some reasonably steep terrain that makes for great turns, and a decently long run. There are a few options for Yo-Yo turns on the backside as well. Park at the sign for Black Prince.
To access this area you cross head down and cross the creek. There may be a skin track in place to follow. Across the creek there is a wide path that you can follow upwards.
It passes through a avalanche slope, before entering a cirque. From here you have to make your own calls. If you do not have the knowledge to navigate avalanche terrain safely you should not be here.
The general trend is heading for the south ridge line of the Knob. It progresses through the trees and has some lovely views.
From here choose your own route down either the northwest face of the Knob or back whence you came. In proper condition the North face offers better skiing.
Backcountry skiing is inherently dangerous. This area has a ATS rating of complex and should only be attempted by competent parties with at least one AST 2 certified member, and all other members at minimum should have an AST 1.
