Lynn Canyon is the perfect trip for families and out-of-town guests. There are plenty of options to shorten or extend this hike or trail run.

The Lynn Canyon Loop is a 5km trail that takes you up through the dense forest before looping back along the rushing water of the river.

There are several trail systems throughout Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, that cater to every ability. Depending on what you're looking for, Lynn Canyon can provide a leisurely 1km stroll the whole family can enjoy or a 10km trail run for you and your dog.

The best place to park is on Dempsey Road near End of the Line General Store. There you can start your hike fully caffeinated or grab a last minute snack for the road. The store is lovely and they have great coffee and gifts.

The trailhead is directly across the road from the General Store. Head southbound along the trail system and across the suspension bridge and once across, follow the Baden Powell Trail northbound until you get to the Lynn Headwaters Connector. Continue until you see a sign on your left marking the Lynn Loop Trail, and keep right. Make your way up the hill until the trail levels out and meanders through the mature hemlock and cedar forest. You’ll notice the notch holes in the stumps from the primary growth as you go. These notches, at roughly eye level, are from 19th century loggers where they inserted springboards. They stood on the boards to manually cut higher up on the tree, avoiding the wide base.

This trail will take you to a lookout with views of Vancouver Island and the Strait of Georgia.

Once you reach a fork in the trail you can choose to extend your hike by 5km to the Third Debris Chute. Otherwise, head southbound down the hill towards Lynn Creek and the trail meets up with a service road that follows the Creek. Follow the gravel road and across the dam as you make your way back to where it all began -- the General Store.

Hike the Lynn Canyon Loop Reviews

If you don't have a lot of time to spare but want to get outside and get some fresh air, this is a great spot. The hike is relatively laid back and takes about an hour at a relaxed pace. They say getting outdoors and getting fresh air is good for the mind and the body, so you should check this place out!

Lynn Canyon, with its mesmerizing emerald blue pools. Amazing! Because of this, there is definitely a steady and heavy flow of tourists on the easier trails. If you deviate slightly and do a bit more of a challenging trail, there tends to be less people. Parking tends to be chaotic (so good luck.) The loop features a lovely boardwalk and easy to manage terrain. Definitely a great place to go for a quick walk! Usually takes about 30-45 minutes to complete when going at a steady pace.
