Description

Added by Sonja Saxe

This is a challenging hike that ends in a scramble to the 2,408m (7,897′) summit of Ha Ling Peak and some impressive views of Canmore.

This is an extremely popular hike located just outside of Canmore, AB. Arrive as early as possible to beat the crowds and get a parking spot in the lot across the street from the trailhead because by mid-morning in peak season cars are lined up down the road!

Once parked, cross the street and head towards the trailhead. Be prepared for a fairly strenuous climb that persists through this entire hike as the the trail immediately begins to ascend through the woods and continues to rise until the summit with very few stretches of level ground. The trail is well-traveled so staying on course should not be a problem. Continue to climb the switchbacks up and up through the forest and unfortunately, since the trail is so covered, there will be few scenic viewpoints until you reach the tree line. Once you make it above the tree line this hike turns into a scramble on loose rocks and scree for the summit. Exercise caution in the scramble as a fall could be dangerous.

Once you make it to the summit all the hard work you just put in will have paid off and you will be rewarded with sprawling views of the mountainous landscape and a spectacular bird's-eye view of Canmore.
