Hike Mount Thom

Mount Thom is a well maintained trail hike in the middle of Chilliwack, BC. The path is mostly packed gravel and it's a great workout and you can even run this trail if you're feeling energetic. It's a 10 km return hike that should take you about 2 hours, depending on how quickly you do it.

This trail isn't super easily marked, but you're looking for a huge staircase with a wooden & chain railing on the side of the road. It's hard to miss once you know what you're looking for. The trail begins here, with these stairs and at the top you will reach a wide gravel path through the back of a residential drive. The path then enters the woods and begins into the switch backs for a while before settling out into winding around the mountain. There's a couple of lookout spots along the way but the real pay off comes at the end of the trail the the panoramic views of Chilliwack and the surrounding valley below. On nice days you can catch vultures and hawks soaring above. There's a bench there too, so you can bring a picnic lunch or just catch your breath for a few minutes before heading back down.

To get to the trail head (stairs at the side of the road) find Thom Creek Road in Chilliwack and at the end turn right onto Sylvan Drive. There's ample street parking here and it's a safe neighbourhood.
