Description

Added by Andrea Thompson

A serene natural pool with a tire swing with a trail alongside a river leading to a 20 meter waterfall with an excellent swimming hole.

This hike is not exactly official, but the parking lot and visitors trail is! Navigate yourself to Morning Star Mill in St. Catherines, there's an easily accessible parking lot that's open year-round (parking is free).

The falls itself is visible from above a mere 20 meters from the parking lot. There is a fenced in viewing area and educational center here as well.

To get to the base of the falls you're going to want to follow the trail through the parking lot, past the visitor center and through the gate along the side of the escarpment. Eventually you'll reach a point where there is an obvious T junction in the trail. You'll notice a pretty worn trail down the side of the escarpment. Follow this down carefully and then retrace your steps in the direction you came from, except this time along the river.

The first part of the river you will encounter is sort of a dammed off area with a tire swing suspended from a tree. It's a fun area to swim and play around before heading a little further up the river to find Lower DeCew Falls. This waterfall is an 8 meter cascade that is pretty fun to climb around on in summer months.

Continue further upstream to reach the 20 meter high DeCew Falls. It's a great spot to swim in the summer and you can even get right behind the falls for a really unique experience.

Be careful in the winter or after it's rained, the trail can be very muddy and slippery. There are a couple of spots where you have to scramble across the escarpment a little.
