Hiking to Black Butte Lookout

What do you do on a really cold Black Friday in Bend? Well, you go hiking.

We decided to do Black Butte, I’d wanted to do this hike for a long time and never found time for it.

There seemed to be some weather on the top but it looked like it was starting to clear up as we were approaching the butte. Sure enough, the weather was not bad when we started climbing. But as it usually happens in the “mountains” (quotes here because this is not a “real” mountain) conditions change quickly and a snowstorm hit us on the top. Nothing too bad, but enough to force us back down faster than we’d like to.

We did not get the view but the lookout and the cabins looked beautiful on that thin layer of snow.
