Climbing & Rappelling at Palisades Park

Oneonta, Alabama

Description

Added by Nina Vanell

• Over 50 routes, all easy to top rope• Beautiful views• Tons of bouldering• Range of difficulty for all skill levels• Cliff line within feet of the parking lot• Only $5 for a 3-day climbing and rappelling permit

Palisades Park opens at 9:00am. Before you unload gear, you can drop by the office to purchase your $5 weekend climbing and rappelling permit and pick up a copy of the routes. Right next to the parking lot, you'll see the overhanging cliffs, "Meditation Point," and stunning views.

From here, you can set top ropes, rappel down, or climb/hike the trails along the cliff. Below the ridge, you'll find nice hiking trails, great bouldering spots, and relaxing places to hammock between climbs. Some fun routes are Elephant Crack (5.6) and Boobs (5.8, not anatomically accurate).

Unfortunately, camping is not allowed at Palisades Park. However, if you're planning to spend the weekend, consider camping at The Ridge Outdoor Adventure Park:http://www.ridgeriding.com/rv-campingThe Ridge is a 30 minute drive from Palisades Park. Camping is $5/person or $20 total (which ever is cheaper), and you'll have access to a bath house with clean showers and hot water.
