Aaron Bates

Aaron Bates is a commercial/nature photographer and graphic designer based in Austin, TX. Simply put, nature moves him. It affects him in a profound way, and his images are a celebration of that. He’s constantly on the look out for fresh perspectives on the iconic, well-photographed scenes. He enjoys capturing scenes that strike people with awe, scenes that create a desire to explore further, and he loves sharing those images and experiences with everyone.

Aaron is an advocate for conservation and is a supporter of our national parks, state parks and all of our wild places in between. He’s also a hiking and camping enthusiast and strives to help connect people to the great outdoors and encourage the preservation of what is ours through his photography — and by his example.

This is an extraordinary spot in Big Bend! It should be noted that Cattail Falls is no longer found on maps of Big Bend NP, and was removed for a good reason. The falls and surrounding area is a fragile environment that must be protected to the best of our—and the park's—abilities. Due to the sensitivity of the area, visitors should not swim in the pool or creek, stay on established trails, keep hiking groups small and pack out what you pack in! Just a reminder to be mindful of your impact here, and enjoy what nature puts before us in this small but permanent oasis. Keep this in mind, but don't leave your camera behind!
