Driving north on the heavily forested and isolated US-101, one does not expect the majestic ocean views that Kalaloch offers. Although the forests and mountains may hold a strong allure for those hiking in Olympic National Park, no trip is complete without visiting the coast. Kalaloch is perfect, in the sense that you can have your cake, and eat it too! The campground makes you feel like you're spending the night deep in the forest, only to awaken directly next to the Pacific Ocean. Campers are able to spend all day hiking in nearby Hoh Rain Forest, and come back for a private, beautiful, and memorable sunset beach walk. You'll notice that the beach next to the campground is mostly filled with your fellow campers, and lodgers from the nearby Kalaloch Lodge; but, if you walk 5-10 minutes away from the beach entrance, you'll feel as if you have the entire beach to yourself.
Located 6 miles north of the small community of Queets, and 30 miles south of Forks, this is the perfect campground for those that take the utmost pleasure in truly being disconnected. Cell phone service is basically non-existent; so plan accordingly. Since Kalaloch is quite isolated, you'll have to make sure to have all the supplies you'll need before you head over to pitch your tent and call it a night.
Make sure to reserve a spot if you are coming during the summer season! It's the only campground in Olympic that allows reservations during the summer, and for good reason. There are several bluff camping sites that have the most incredible views if you are lucky enough to snag one.
