Wild Horses in Currituck National Wildlife Refuge
Corolla, North Carolina
Description
Added by Mary C Graham
Currituck National Wildlife Refuge is located near Corolla Beach, NC. At this refuge, you can can visit wild horses on the beach! Please remember to be respectful of wild animals in their habitat and keep a respectful distance.
There are two main ways to get a glimpse of these horses: You can pay to take a jeep tour (Wild Horse Adventure Tours or Corolla Wild Horse Tours), but you can also bike, hike, or drive yourself onto the beach. If you drive, you need to have four-wheel drive, and it is suggested that you reduce the air in your tires. You are driving on the sand. Free air is offered for when you come back from the beach. We did not have to go very far before we saw four horses roaming the beach. We saw more once we continued.
This is a very exciting thing to do when visiting Corolla beach!
