The Buffalo River is one of the best floats in Arkansas. Stretching from Boxley bridge to the White River, this amazing river is visited by hundreds of floaters every year. All along the river are Take-outs. These are spots where you can drive down to the river and put in or take out your kayak or canoe. This makes it easy to float only certain sections. The whole river is National Forest. It is beautiful.
As you float down the river you will see many amazing bluffs and great forest views. There are also caves along the way. The water is superb. It is clear and fresh. The beginning of the river, near Boxley, is small, but as the Buffalo gets closer to the White River, its water depth increases. Make sure to check the water levels before you go! As you head down river there are many spots to stop and bluff jump, fish, or swim. If you are looking for nice campgrounds with bathrooms, they have some along the way. You can float the whole thing, which would take several days, or simply go a few miles between the take out areas.
Steel Creek, and Kyle's are the nicest take-outs, with bathrooms, campgrounds, parking lots, ext. One of the most beautiful take-outs is Hasty. It has a beach and on the opposite side of the river is a giant and beautiful bluff. Watch out for the stretch of river between Boxley and Ponca, this area in not maintained well and is normally pretty shallow. The river can get high or low so always check the water level. Never go out if the water level is too high. Bluff Jumping is fun, but always use cation. Stupidity can cause injury or even death.
If your looking for something to do on the water, try kayaking the Buffalo. You may want to try swimming, bluff jumping, camping, canoeing, or fishing too! The Buffalo River is a great place to have fun.
