Great hike near Phoenix with desert wildlife, climbing opportunities, and scenic views.
Pinnacle Peak is a 3.8 mile out-and-back hike along a beautifully groomed trail with a moderate gain of ~1,000ft. This distinctive 600ft granite summit can be seen from most of the surrounding valley and offers spectacular views of the McDowell Mountains, iconic Four Peaks, Granite Mountain and the Cone Mountains. This serene slice of Sonoran Desert is home to a wide range of wildlife including bobcats, gila monsters, desert tortoises, antelope ground squirrels, cactus wrens and rattlesnakes.
In order to get to the actual peak that sits at 2,889ft, you will need your rock climbing gear. Pinnacle Peak Park is considered to be one of Phoenix's classic granite climbing areas. There are many classic crack and bolted routes.
The park is open dawn till dusk and is strictly enforced. Get there early on weekends and holidays to avoid the crowds.
