Slide Rock is a hidden gem, tucked away in the Oak Creek Canyon. It is located 7 miles north of Sedona, AZ (about 45 minutes away from Flagstaff) and a 1.5-2 hour drive from or to the Grand Canyon (roughly 100 miles to the South Rim). This local swimming hole consists of a stretch of smooth, slippery red sandstone rocks and a flowing stream, making Slide Rock a popular bucket list spot for a refreshing swim, but let's be honest - we all want to conquer the natural water slides.

The swimming area is easily accessible. There is a paved path that leads you down to the rocks, just a short walk from the parking lot. The depths of the water varies from shallow, where most of the children are, to parts that are a bit deeper, where there are rocks you can jump off of. Test out the water before jumping in (for your safety). Water shoes are also recommended - it will make exploring beyond the initial area much more enjoyable and less painful for your feet.

Route 89 will take you on a scenic drive to Slide Rock State Park. The actual park is at the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon, but it is hard to miss on the road, because you will see a crowd of people. Unless the line of cars at the entrance is ridiculously long, don't let the crowd deter you from indulging at this spot.

Be prepared to pay an entrance fee ($20-$30). Exact change or a credit card is preferred. Also plan to arrive EARLY. After 10:00am, parking becomes quite the mission to accomplish, as the parking lot will fill up quickly and the line of cars attempting to enter the park will continue to grow (especially around noon) as the day continues.Depending on the season, also come prepared for any potential temperature changes throughout the day. The weather can change very quickly, so make sure to check out what the weather will be like before venturing out. The water may also be cold, be prepared for that as well, so there isn't too much shock to your body.
